Blended follows Isabella through a moment in her twelve year old life. Her parents, one white and one black divorce at the beginning of the story throughtout the story her parents manage to find true love and new relationships but not without a lot of emotional baggage between the four of them. Izzy struggles with her sense of identity and that struggle deepens as she experiences first the impact of her parent's divorce and then in quick succession both parents deciding to remarry and at the same time, she is forced to confront the ugly reality of racial insensitivity, racial profiling and police brutality.
